Building Community Book by Book
Don’t miss the 2026 Sacramento Book Festival, Sunday, April 19, from 10 am to 5 pm at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 6151 H Street, in East Sacramento.
🗓 Sunday, April 19, 2026
⏰ 10 AM–5 PM
📍 Scottish Rite – 6151 H St.
With more than 250 authors and eight local bookstores, this year’s book festival will be bigger and better than ever. We’ll have writers in all genres, giving the public a chance to meet authors, get books signed, and hear presentations from many well-known writers. And admission is free!
We wanted to give a special thanks to Avid Reader Davis and Underground Books, who have gone above and beyond to help us have books on hand to sell for all our wonderful panelists.
Don’t forget to pick up a festival passport at the front door and get it stamped at all four stations in the festival. Turn it in for your chance to win great prizes from Capital Stage, B Street Theatre, the Sacramento Ballet, the Sacramento History Museum, and Zocalo University Village.

Looking for a way to get more involved in the new year?
As we start 2026, we’re inviting neighbors who want to make a difference to consider joining the RPNA Board. No special experience needed—just an interest in contributing and working with a friendly group of neighbors who care about our community. If you’re curious about what the commitment looks like or want to learn more, we’d love to connect! Email 📧: RPNAelections@gmail.com
Serving on the board is a great way to get involved, meet neighbors, and support our amazing community. We’d love to hear from you!
💪🏽 River Park Patrol Needs You!
🚨 Help Keep River Park Safe – Join Our Neighborhood Watch!
Help keep our community safe as Paradise Beach reopens. We’re seeking 10–12 volunteers to patrol Friday and Saturday nights (10pm–midnight) from May to August. You can also get involved by walking, jogging, or driving through the neighborhood at other times. Patrols are flexible and divided into three manageable areas. Just 2–3 patrols a month and a few short meetings per year make a big difference.
📢 Make a Report
Be sure to report all River Park issues to our Neighborhood Watch captain, Rex Hessock. Issues are compiled and shared with our Sac PD representative to help allocate police resources more effectively.
Report any issues like underage drinking, vandalism, or homelessness, and help us work with local police to keep River Park safe.
Report Transient Activity to the Sheriff’s Homeless Outreach Team
With the warm weather rolling in we’ve seen a slight uptick in transient activity in and around the neighborhood and the river access in recent weeks. If you observe someone loitering, going through trash, or camping in the area, please contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) at 916-874-1025.
📞 Why report it?
The more calls the HOT line receives about a specific area, the more likely it is to receive a timely response. Your reports help the County prioritize outreach and connect individuals with needed services.
✈️ Travel plans coming up?
Don’t forget—you can request River Park Patrol to provide extra patrols around your home while you’re out of town. Reach out and let them know before you leave!
📞Contact our Watch Captain Rex Hesock at (916) 214-1623 or rbandit@aol.com, or email riverparkpatrol@aol.com to get involved!
