River Park 4th of July Festival 2022

Parades & Festival Info:

The River Park Neighborhood Association (RPNA) invites you to the Annual 4th of July Festival. This Festival is a River Park tradition, and if you are new to the neighborhood it is a great way to meet your neighbors and see why living in River Park can’t be beat. There will be live music, food trucks, carnival games/contests, balloon artists, face painters, caricaturist, and imagination station, and more. There will be events for adults and kids of all ages. Something for everyone!

This event could not happen without the support of our District 3 Councilman Jeff Harris, whose staff and funding help make this wonderful family event.  Thank you, Jeff Harris!

Street Closures:  Several streets in RP will be briefly closed during the Classic Car Parade and the Firecracker Parade. See route noted below.

Classic Car Parade (9:00am cars lineup at Ciavarella and will be leaving a little after 9:00):  The cars will be driving down Moddison, crossing Carlson, left on Sandburg, left on Monalee, right on Minerva, right on Callister, left on Carlson, and ending at Glenn Hall Park.  The cars are expected to be at Callister/Carlson by around 9:35.  (see map below).

Firecracker Parade (10am):  Kids of all ages, bring your decorated bikes, scooters and wagons and parade down Carlson Drive to Glenn Hall Park with your friends! This parade starts at Caleb Greenwood Elementary School (corner of Camellia Ave. and Carlson Dr.) Please be at that corner by 9:45am if you want to participate in the parade. (Note: Due to a Covid outbreak among musicians, the Sacramento Youth Band will not be able to participate in this year’s River Park 4th of July festivities.)

Food Trucks (Open until 1:00): Several food trucks will be at the park starting at 10am.  Includes Meltdown Ice Cream Truck.

Entertainment: 10:15am – 12:45pm: Music by Mike Blanchard and Californios

Festival (immediately following Firecracker Parade):  After the parade, join us for the festival at Glenn Hall Park! The schedule is as follows:

9:45am – Carnival wrist band sales (until 11:00am)

10:15am – Balloon Artists, Face Painters, Caricaturist and Imagination Station (until 12:15pm)

10:30am – 12:30pm – Carnival games, contests, big slide, and soccer activity

10:45am and 11:45am – Water balloon toss

11:00am – Decorated bike contest judging (at tennis court)

11:15am and 12:15pm – Potato sack races

12:00pm – Kids cupcake eating contest

12:10pm – Adults cupcake eating contest

Prices:  Wristbands will cover the cost of carnival games/contests, balloon artists, face painters, caricaturist, and imagination station, big slide, and soccer activities. Wrist bands will be $5. This year will be CASH ONLY, exact change appreciated!

Cupcake Eating Contest (12:00): This year welcomes back the Cupcake Eating Contests. (These contests are an additional fee, and not included in the Carnival wristband cost). The Carnival Wristband Sales Booth will have a sign-up sheet for the Kids Cupcake Eating Contest (12:00pm) and the Adults Cupcake Eating Contest (12:10pm). Contests will have a maximum of 10 contestants each, so sign-up early! $5 per contestant. Great River Park SWAG prizes for first, second and third place Cupcake Eating Contest winners.

Chalk Art: Join the River Park Neighborhood Association Chalk Art Gallery! Make art with your friends, family or by yourself! Show your community just how creative you are while having fun!

  • FREE chalk will be available Friday 7/1 through Monday 7/4 at Caleb Greenwood, Glenn Hall Park (in the children’s playground) and Ciavarella Field during the day, as well as at the Carnival wrist band booth during the 4th of July Festival. Pick a location near your house, at the children’s playground at the park, or wherever you find your perfect spot, and make your design!
  • Email a photo of your finished product to the RPNA at sacramentorpna@gmail.com by 7/5 to be included in the RP Electronic Chalk Art gallery posted to the RPNA website, social media, and distributed through the RPNA e-mail list. Please include the name you want attributed to the art.

RPNA Membership:  If you are interested in becoming an RPNA member or want to check the status of your membership, please stop by the RPNA booth during the festival!  There will be RP items sold at the booth also, such as stickers, shirts, and coolers.

Buffalo Chip Runs:  The Buffalo Chips Running Club is operating its runs the same morning in the neighborhood.  At 8:15am, their 5-mile run begins.  At 9:40am, the Kids’ 1/4-mile run begins.  For more information go to: https://www.buffalochips.com
