The RPNA held its Board meeting on 4/21. Key takeaways are as follows:
- After reviewing responses to our recent survey, the Neighborhood Improvement Committee is drafting a proposal for consideration at next month’s meeting that would aim to reduce crime through Police private security patrols. The program would require an additional investment from residents. We will distribute the proposal prior to next month’s meeting and encourage any interested residents to attend.
- Officer Tera Carson from SacPD’s Problem-Oriented Policing Team joined the meeting to answer questions. According to SacPD data, crime in RP has not been increasing, except for vehicle related crime. She reiterated that patrols are focused on where crime is being reported, so residents need to be reporting everything: 911 for emergencies, 808-5471 for non-emergencies, and the following site to file a police report for any crime that has taken place: https://www.cityofsacramento.org/Police/How-Do-I/File-a-Police-Report
- The Neighborhood Improvement Committee identified 17 street lights that are not working properly. The information was reported to the City, and they are working to fix them.
- City Councilmember Jeff Harris joined the meeting to explain how he is again representing RP following an opinion on from the City Attorney stating the new districts do not need to be implemented until current terms complete. With Harris termed out in January 2023, it is unclear who will represent RP in 2023.
- Regarding the U.S. Army Corps levee bank projection projects: (1) the levee will be closed from Glenn hall to the I-Street bridge from mid-April through November while construction takes place. Glenn Hall park will be used as an entrance for construction vehicles, but the parking lot will remain open to the public. Soccer fields, tennis courts and swimming not affected. Parking limited to west side of lot during some times. (2) The Army Corps is also preparing beginning the environmental document consideration process on the “washout” section on the West end of the neighborhood. There is a 45-day comment period on environmental documents with a virtual public meeting on May 5. More information at http://www.sacleveeupgrades.com.
